If your Honor Magic 7 Pro is refusing to send picture messages or group chats, it’s a common but fixable hiccup. The issue usually comes down to a setting in MagicOS, your mobile data, or how your carrier is configured. Let’s get your multimedia messages flowing again.

MMS doesn’t travel over your regular SMS pathway or Wi-Fi, it needs an active mobile data connection. First, pull down the notification shade and tap the mobile data icon to make sure it’s enabled. You should see the 4G or 5G symbol in your status bar.
If you have a signal but messages still won’t go, try toggling Airplane mode on for a few seconds and then off. This forces the phone to re-register on the network and can clear up a temporary data stall. I’ve found this works more often than not on modern Android phones.
Honor’s messaging app has specific settings for multimedia. Open the Messages app, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and go to Settings > Advanced.
Here, look for the Multimedia messages (MMS) section. Ensure Auto-retrieve MMS is turned on. If you’re traveling, you might also want to enable Roaming auto-retrieve, but be mindful of potential charges.
This is a frequent culprit. The Access Point Name (APN) tells your phone exactly how to connect to your carrier’s data and MMS services. If these are wrong, MMS will fail.
Go to Settings > Mobile network > Access Point Names. You should see an APN list, with one selected (usually your carrier’s name). Tap it to view the details.
Don’t change anything randomly. Instead, contact your carrier’s support or visit their website to get the exact, correct APN settings for the Honor Magic 7 Pro. Entering them precisely here often solves the problem immediately.
Corrupted temporary files can cause all sorts of app misbehavior. Clearing the cache is a safe first step that won’t delete your messages. Head to Settings > Apps > Messages.
Tap on Storage usage, then hit Clear cache. Go back and try sending an MMS again. If that doesn’t work, you can try Clear data, but be warned: this will erase your entire message history within the app, so only do this if you’re okay with that loss.
It sounds simple, but a restart clears the phone’s working memory and can fix a temporary software glitch that’s blocking MMS. Just press and hold the power button, then tap ‘Restart’ from the menu that appears.
For a more forceful refresh, you can perform a force restart. Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until you feel a vibration and see the Honor logo appear on the screen.
Running an old version of MagicOS could have a bug that interferes with messaging. Honor regularly releases updates that include fixes for connectivity issues. Go to Settings > System & updates > Software update and tap ‘Check for updates’.
If an update is available, install it. The phone will restart, and it’s a good idea to test your MMS again afterward. The silicon-carbon battery in the Magic 7 Pro handles these update cycles quickly, so you won’t be stuck waiting long.
This is a more comprehensive step if the above hasn’t worked. Resetting network settings will wipe all your saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and mobile data configurations back to factory defaults, but it often resolves stubborn connection problems.
On your Magic 7 Pro, navigate to Settings > System & updates > Reset. Select Reset network settings and confirm. After the phone reboots, you’ll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices, but your APN should be reconfigured automatically.
MMS messages, especially videos, need space to be processed and saved. If your phone’s internal storage is critically low, it might fail to send them. Open Settings > Storage to see how much free space you have.
Try to keep at least a few gigabytes free. You can quickly free up space by clearing old downloads or offloading photos to the cloud using Honor’s built-in tools or Google Photos.
Sometimes the issue is specific to Honor’s stock messaging app. Installing Google Messages from the Play Store and setting it as your default can bypass the problem entirely. Google’s app is also excellent at handling the transition between RCS (Chat features) and traditional MMS.
After installing it, open the app and follow the prompts to make it your default. Then try sending your picture message again. Many users find this app offers a more reliable experience across different carriers.
If you’ve tried everything and MMS still won’t send, the issue might be on your carrier’s end. There could be a service outage in your area, a problem with your account provisioning, or a specific setting they need to enable on their side for your device.
Give them a call or use online chat. Be ready to tell them you’re using an Honor Magic 7 Pro and that you’ve already verified your APN settings. They can often run diagnostics or push a refresh to your line that resolves it.
