Exec appointments: Tourism gets BAC exec – InQueensland

The Brisbane Airport has lost its marketing boss to TEQ, Navigator splits its leadership and a new deputy director general has been appointed, plus more in this week’s executive and board appointments.
Oliver Philpot has been appointed as Tourism and Events Queensland group executive, commercial and partnerships and will begin in the role on November 15.
He is currently senior vice president and head of aviation marketing and partnerships at Brisbane Airport Corporation.
In that role, he has worked closely with airlines from across the world and has been at the forefront of negotiations to secure new airline services into Queensland.
Navigator Investments has appointed Stephen Darke as its chief executive and director.
Darke was previously with Macquarie Group and then set up his own investment management consultancy.
The company’s current CEO Sean McGould will focus on leading and further developing the Lighthouse business as its chief executive and would report directly to the board.
Digital marketing and automation platform Constant Contact has appointed Brisbane-based Renée Chaplin as its new Asia-Pacific vice president.
Chaplin brings over 20 years’ experience from companies including Cloudscene, Zuuse, CSG and LivePerson. Her appointment follows Constant Contact’s acquisition of Queensland sovereign email and SMS marketing platform Vision6 last year.
Chaplin will head the leading affordable marketing platform’s APAC expansion from its regional HQ in Brisbane, with a focus on small businesses, unlocking AI potential, and enhancing value for local customers and partners.
Diabetes Australia has appointed Laura Fraser Hardy as its national manager of government relations.
She was previously chief of staff to the Minister for Health, Shannon Fentiman. She also worked for Fentiman when she was Attorney General.
Graeme Bolton has been appointed as the new deputy director-general, youth justice within the Department of Youth Justice, Employment, Small Business and Training.
He has more than 25 years of experience across executive and leadership roles, including as a director in a private planning and surveying consultancy; and various deputy directors-general and other senior executive roles within the Queensland Government.
He has also been a director of planning and economic development with the Townsville City Council and the head of strategic planning for the government of Qatar.
Brisbane Economic Development Agency has appointed Dr John Cowie as its general manager for investment attraction.
He previously worked for the Brisbane City Council as general manager of city planning and economic development.
QUT Professor Kerrie Sadiq has been appointed to the eight-member Tax Practitioners Board, the national body responsible for the regulation of tax practitioners.
Professor Sadiq is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow and co-editor of the Australian Tax Review, a leading, internationally recognised academic journal, and author of numerous leading tax books and publications.
She is Professor of Taxation in the School of Accountancy in the QUT Business School where she is a member of the research group Accounting for Social Change and the Centre for Decent Work and Industry.
Mineral processing company Zeotech said chief executive Alister Morrison would move to the role of chief development officer and the company’s current chief operating officer Scott Burkhart would become CEO.
The changes would take effect from November 1.
Zeotech said the changes would strengthen management by allowing a dedicated focus on commercial development.
Agriculture Minister Murray Watt has announced appointments to Australia’s research and development corporations with three new directors coming from Queensland.
Among new directors for Grain Research and Development Corporation was Shaun Coffey, who is a consultant and was an interim CEO at Sugar Research Australia.
Ross Burnett was also re-appointed to the board of the Cotton Research Development Board. Julie Cotter was made a director of AgriFutures Australia as was Harjeet Khanna.
Sports Gold Coast has appointed new directors with Matt Burgess, Joanne Bergamin and Tony Mullen joining the board.
