HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – City officials are warning the public about a text scam circulating among residents.
Honolulu’s Department of Customer Services is alerting the public of the return of a scam being sent to the community via text message.
For the second time this month, residents are reportedly receiving texts that start with the misleading words, “Important Notice from Hawaii MVD.”
The fake notice goes on to claim a traffic ticket must be processed by a certain date, demanding payment and a response to the text message.
The mayor’s office reminds the public that the DMV does not send out unsolicited text messages or requests for payments and personal information.
Anyone who gets this text should not respond and immediately block the sender.
