A Young Enterprise (YE) company made up of nine first-year students from the University of Malta’s Junior College has come up with Malti9, a Maltese dictionary of technological terms suitable for text messages on mobile phones.
Through Malti9 the students will show how Maltese and technology can be used in an innovative product.
The YE company’s name, Spiral, is inspired by the spiral motif on some of Malta’s Neolithic temples and is a tribute to Malta’s rich cultural heritage, which it also hopes to publicise by using the spiral symbol in its marketing material.
Another innovative product the company is offering is a tent that opens up in less than two seconds and folds in under 15 seconds. Each tent can accommodate two to three people and weigh just 2.8 kg.
The YE company, which is sponsored by HSBC Bank Malta plc, will be taking part in its first national trade fair in front of the Law Courts in Valletta on Friday and Saturday.
