A few weeks ago, I received an SMS notification, allegedly from a well-known courier company, informing me of the arrival of a package. The message requested that I pay a small amount (BND6.99) to confirm the currency, and it included a link that purportedly led to the courier’s website.
This SMS came as a surprise to me since I had not made any online purchases, and it initially led me to believe that someone had thoughtfully sent me a gift. However, upon discussing this with friends, I learnt that they too had received similar text messages. Fortunately, none of us fell for this apparent scam, but it raised concerns about the potential victims who might not be as cautious.
Has there been any official statement or clarification regarding the legitimacy of these SMS messages? The use of well-known courier services as a guise for phishing attempts is not a new tactic, and it is important for the public to be aware of such schemes.
These scams can have serious consequences, including financial loss and personal data theft, and they undermine the trust that people have in legitimate businesses.
Furthermore, it is equally important for individuals to remain vigilant and cautious when receiving unexpected messages or requests for payments, especially when they appear dubious.
Verifying the authenticity of such communications through official channels is a simple yet effective precaution.
