Public school board to start texting parents – CK News Today

The Greater Essex County District School Board has introduced a new way to communicate with parents and guardians.
It’s launching SMS/text messages through School Messenger.
“It is vital that we maintain clear communication with all GECDSB parents and guardians,” said an email from the school board. “This is another way for us to reach out to you regarding important news, updates and alerts.”
Parents who want to start receiving texts and have already filed their cell phone numbers with the board can text “Y” for yes to 978338.
If you haven’t opted in by Wednesday, you should receive a text message from the board. Just respond “Y”.
If you do not want to receive text messages, just ignore the board’s text.
Messaging and data rates may apply.
The board says if you change your number or a new number is added to the student information system database, it will automatically be set up for text messaging.
