An Apple a day keeps your Bank Account Empty
I’m sure you’ve heard of the above quote…(I made it😎) Well, it’s about time we realize that Apple’s gross margin is high enough for most people to NOT buy ALL of their products at least. Even if you could buy it, should you!?
Well, I bought them all so you wouldn’t have to… and now my kidney and liver are on sale. My point is, is it worth buying Apple’s ecosystem if it is a significant amount of money for you? NO… And here are some changes I would make to make your PC seamlessly interact with your Phone, TV, watch, etc. Let’s get started!
Now, as most Windows users realize, there is also Linux users… and at the end of the day, there will be different workflows for both of these operating systems. So, I’ll be dividing this into 2. The next article would be on Linux, and this one is on Windows. ok… Starting off.
So… Here is where you’ll find EVERYTHING. I’ll try my best and keep this article updated, with most powerful apps which could help you be productive in terms of keeping an ecosystem and interface to your choice.
BUT, at the same time, this article is meant for you to nit pick a few apps and parts of the article you want, and leave the rest. The article contains enough number of apps to overwhelm and bloat your machine, so I would just recommend keeping you PC clean, and using the apps which maximizes the efficiency, without overlapping too much of functionalities.
That being said, Here are some small sacrifises you would want to do to get a better ecosystem:-
This article has 2 parts:-
2. Stardock Start11: Another option for customizing the Start menu, Stardock Start11 offers various styles and configurations to suit your preferences.
3. Fences: Organize your desktop icons more efficiently with Fences. It lets you group icons into customizable containers, making it easier to find and access your apps.
4. Microsoft PowerToys: PowerToys is a collection of utilities developed by Microsoft that adds useful features to Windows 11. For example, FancyZones helps you arrange windows in a grid layout, and Keyboard Manager lets you remap keys for improved productivity.
5. Wox: Wox is a powerful application launcher that allows you to quickly search and open files, apps, and websites, similar to macOS’s Spotlight.
6. QTTabBar: This app adds tabs to Windows Explorer, making it easier to manage multiple folders and file locations in a single window.
As many of you realize, Windows has done a really good job to have a good integration in the phone market😒😒😒… in the parallel universe. In our universe, we have the delight of Windows PC… and that’s it. Hence in order to connect Windows with Android/iOS, we COULD use the Windows phone link app, but personally, I think it’s missing… a lot! So, including that, here are some more apps to make your ecosystem of devices defeat Apple.
You could go with 2 routes here… Install all Microsoft on Android or install all Google on Windows… I went with the latter option because I consider Google ecosystem to be a bit more feature rich… ok a lot more feature rich to be honest.
Also, since I’m going with Google here, I could just use google chrome and “Install the website as an app”(it’s available in the setting) so that these Google websites virtually work as apps. Except for Chrome and drive of course. You’ll have to install the app.
If all of this is done, congrats! You could have easily done something similar just like Apple, like syncing files between devices, Notes, tasks (in Apple its reminders), etc.
Now if you want the basic interaction and ecosystem, you could stop here. This would mean you have everything you want to do in Google apps, and you’ll never get lost in your ecosystem. BUT… I want to take this a level up… I want this to be the ultimate seamless hope for all my Windows users out there reading this… I want to minimize every inch of inconvenience I might have. For that, we shall call some third-party Apps into your system, that could provide features that Windows cant dream of…
2. Joplin: An open-source note-taking app with end-to-end encryption, available on Android, PC, and Wear OS.
3. Autosync for Google Drive: Synchronize files and folders between Android and PC via Google Drive.
4. KDE Connect: Connect Android devices with Linux desktops, allowing seamless file sharing and notifications.
5. Clipbrd: Copy and paste text, links, and images between Android and PC seamlessly.
6. Unified Remote: Turn your Android device into a remote control for your PC, making it easy to control media and applications.
7. MyPhoneExplorer: Sync and manage your Android phone data, contacts, and messages with your PC.
8. Portal — WiFi File Transfers: Transfer files wirelessly between Android and PC over Wi-Fi without internet connection.
9. Tasker: Automate tasks and actions across your Android, PC, and Wear OS devices.
10. Pocket Casts: Synchronize your podcast subscriptions and listening progress between Android and PC.
11. Scrittor: A distraction-free, cross-platform text editor for Android and PC.
12. Spark: A smart email client with seamless synchronization across Android, PC, and Wear OS.
13. Join by joaoapps: Send files, links, and clipboard data between Android and PC.
14. Vysor: Mirror and control your Android screen on your PC for easy access and interaction.
15. Alt-C: A clipboard manager that syncs your copied text between Android and PC.
16. TrebleShot: Share files directly between Android devices, PCs, and other platforms without internet access.
17. Glimpse Notifications: Get notification previews on your Android device, similar to the “Active Display” feature on Wear OS.
18. MyScript Calculator: A handwriting calculator that works on Android and PC for a unique input experience.
19. SendLeap: Send SMS from your PC using your Android phone number.
20. KDE Connect SMS: Send and receive SMS from your PC using your Android phone.
These lesser-known third-party apps offer valuable functionalities to improve the seamless ecosystem between Android, PC, and Wear OS. They can significantly enhance productivity and convenience for users who seek more integration between their devices.
Hopefully you dont download ALL of these! It’s made to be mix and matched to what you want. You could install all of the above, but it might get a little too bloated!
Hopefully some of these could be mixed and matched for your companuter and be made a beast. Hope you got something from this article, I’ll be meeting you soon! 🙂
You’re Awesome 🙂
