As part of the overhaul of the public warning system, the government will continue testing its respective channels on Monday by sending a test alert to everyone in Luxembourg.
Authorities will carry out the monthly test of the siren network and send a text message alert to the population. This month, however, the warning system will be tested throughout the country, meaning that only for the second time, everyone on the territory of the Grand Duchy will receive the message. Sirens, texts, and the GouvAlert mobile application will all be activated.
It is important to note that only people whose mobile phones are connected to a station located on Luxembourgish territory at the time the alert is launched will receive the following message: “LU-ALERT / ALERTE TEST / NO ACTION REQUIRED / AUCUNE ACTION REQUISE / KEINE HANDLUNG ERFORDERLICH / INFOS: GD.LU/LU-ALERT”.
The government will not collect personal data in the context of the test. Furthermore, in order to ensure that an actual alert can be distinguished from the test message, it should be noted that the passage “No action required / Aucune action requise / Keine Handlung erforderlich” will only be mentioned in the test messages.
A delay between the sending and receiving of the message might occur, meaning not all citizens will receive the text at the exact same time.
The objective of the tests is to ensure the functionality of the different alert channels, to identify possible points of improvement and, above all, to raise awareness among citizens to make use of the different alert channels. The long-term testing strategy, which will be carried out on a regular basis, aims to ensure the resilience of the population in the face of emergencies or crises that might have an impact on civil security.
The government is conducting a survey to gain insight into the functionality of the warning system, and identify points of improvement, as well as to raise residents’ awareness of the system.
In the interest of continuous improvement, a survey (survey link in English) has been created which all residents are welcome and encouraged to complete. Recipients are also invited to send any feedback to the government at the following address: [email protected].
