Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday warned city residents about fake SMS messages claiming to be linked to traffic fines issued by the DMP Traffic Division.
In a statement, the police said fraudsters are spreading false messages through social media and digital platforms to deceive people.
The DMP clarified that traffic cases filed under the Road Transport Act through AI and video surveillance systems follow official procedures.
According to police, official notices are sent to the registered address of the vehicle owner with signatures from authorised traffic officials.
The DMP said SMS notifications related to AI or video-based traffic cases are sent only from two official numbers — 01320-042207 and 01320-042227.
Officials also said traffic fines can be paid only through approved online banking services, including Upay and CBL.
The police warned that no official from the Traffic Division will ever ask for PIN numbers, passwords, OTPs or confidential banking details.
Citizens were advised to contact the Traffic Division or call the national emergency service 999 for any information related to traffic cases.
The DMP urged the public to remain careful and avoid falling victim to online scams and misleading messages.
