Kosovo Police has called on citizens to be careful of fraudulent SMS messages on behalf of banks.
Police have said that an increase in cases of fraud via SMS has been observed recently, and that various citizens have received fake telephone messages, through which they are informed that their bank accounts will be blocked if they do not take immediate action, and that these messages include a suspicious link, where citizens are asked to enter their personal and banking data, Gazeta Express reports.
“After entering this data, unauthorized persons gain access to the victims’ bank accounts and illegally obtain financial resources, specifically their bank accounts are emptied,” the response states, among other things.

The Regional Police Directorate in Prizren, despite appealing to its citizens regarding the emergence of a worrying phenomenon through fraudulent SMS messages which poses a direct risk to the financial security of citizens, has recently noticed an increase in cases of fraud via SMS.
Specifically, various citizens have received fake telephone messages, through which they are informed that their bank accounts will be blocked if they do not take immediate action. These messages include a suspicious link, where citizens are asked to enter their personal and banking data. After entering this data, unauthorized persons manage to access the victims’ bank accounts and illegally obtain financial means, specifically their bank accounts are emptied.
Advice for citizens:
• Do not open or click on suspicious links received through phone messages.
• Do not provide your personal information, passwords or identification codes on insecure platforms.
• If you suspect you have been scammed, report the case to the police immediately.
• Kosovo Police APPEALS to all citizens not to fall prey to scams and not to click on unknown links sent via SMS or emails.
• The Kosovo Police remains committed to protecting the safety of citizens and taking measures against persons who commit illegal acts.
