If your Redmi Note 13 Pro is refusing to send picture messages or group chats, it’s a frustrating roadblock. The issue usually comes down to a setting in MIUI, your mobile data connection, or a glitch with the messaging app itself. Let’s get your MMS working again.
This is the most common fix. Unlike regular texts, MMS requires mobile data to be active, even if you’re connected to WiFi. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel and make sure the mobile data icon is turned on. You can also go to Settings > Mobile network to enable it.
If you have a strong WiFi signal, try temporarily turning WiFi off. Some networks can interfere with the MMS delivery process, and forcing the phone to use mobile data alone often solves it.
The stock MIUI Messaging app has specific settings for multimedia messages. Open the Messages app and tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, then go to Settings > Advanced settings.
Here, make sure Auto-download MMS is enabled. You should also see an option for MMS roaming auto-retrieve; turn that on if you’re traveling. I’ve seen cases where these get toggled off after a software update.
Incorrect Access Point Name (APN) settings will stop MMS in its tracks. These tell your phone how to connect to your carrier’s multimedia service. Go to Settings > Mobile network > SIM cards & mobile data.
Select your active SIM card and tap Access Point Names (APN). If the list is empty or you only see one generic entry, you’ll need the correct settings from your carrier. A quick web search for “[Your Carrier] APN settings” usually brings them up. Enter them carefully, save, and restart your phone.
A corrupted cache in the Messages app can cause sending failures. This is a safe first step that won’t delete your texts. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps.
Find and tap on Messages. Then, select Clear data at the bottom. On the next screen, choose Clear cache. If the problem persists, you can try Clear all data, but be aware this will erase your entire message history.
A simple reboot can clear out temporary software glitches. For a more thorough reset, use the force restart method. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds or more until you feel the phone vibrate and see the Redmi logo appear.
This is different from a normal restart and can resolve deeper system hiccups that might be affecting network services. It’s a good step after changing APN settings or clearing app data.
An outdated version of MIUI can have bugs that break MMS. Xiaomi releases updates that often include fixes for connectivity issues. Go to Settings > About phone > MIUI version.
Tap the “Check for updates” button. If an update is available, install it. Your phone will restart, and it’s a good idea to check your MMS function again afterward. Make sure you’re connected to WiFi and have at least a 50% charge before starting the update.
If you’re still stuck, resetting all network settings can be the nuclear option that works. This will erase all WiFi passwords, paired Bluetooth devices, and mobile network configurations, returning them to factory defaults.
Go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset > Reset phone. Here, select Reset network settings. Confirm the reset and let your phone reboot. You’ll then need to reconnect to your WiFi networks and re-pair Bluetooth devices.
Your Redmi Note 13 Pro needs a bit of free space to process and send multimedia messages. If your storage is critically full, it can fail. Open the Security app and tap on Cleaner to see a breakdown and get suggestions for freeing up space.
Deleting old message threads with lots of videos or photos can help immediately. Aim to keep at least a few hundred megabytes free. This is also a good chance to disable those MIUI ads by going into the Security app’s settings if you haven’t already.
Sometimes the issue is with the MIUI Messaging app itself. Installing Google Messages from the Play Store and setting it as your default can bypass the problem entirely. It’s a clean, reliable app that often handles MMS more consistently.
After installing it, open the app and it will usually prompt you to set it as default. If not, you can set it manually in Settings > Apps > Default apps > SMS app. Test sending a picture to see if it goes through.
