Police warning community about fake text messages – KFVS12

ZEIGLER, Ill. (KFVS) – A southern Illinois police department is warning the public about a text messaging scam.
Zeigler Police posted a document on social media of what appears to be a toll violation.
Police say this looks more realistic than previous texting scams about toll violations, but explain there are some tell-tale signs that it’s fake.
This includes a QR code asking for payment.
Police also say legitimate toll violations will never come through text message.
They will arrive in your mailbox.
Police also called the fake message senders “some waste of oxygen.”
Their advice if you get one of these messages, just delete it and do not reply or engage with the sender.
