Ireland considers SMS base filter to fight fraud messages – Telecompaper

Ireland is looking at new ways to stop SMS spam and related fraud. ComReg has opened a public consultation on new proposals, including a SMS base filter to use message metadata at the network level to identify potential scammers and block their Sims automatically. In addition, it’s looking at imposing a cap on the number of SMS that can be sent in a period of time, and introducing a DNS filter to block access to fraud websites from SMS. Comments on the proposals can be submitted until 15 May.
