BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – If you’re in Brazos County and received a text message saying you owe back taxes and your home is up for auction, it’s likely a scam.
Brazos County Tax Assessor-Collector Melissa Leonard said her office received numerous calls Wednesday morning from concerned residents who received the messages. Leonard said the texts are not legitimate.
“The tax office has not sent these messages,” Leonard said. “We do not have residents’ phone numbers or email addresses and could not send these messages.”
Officials are urging residents to disregard the texts and not click any links or provide personal information in response.
