SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber is warning voters to be cautious about “unofficial” text messages related to their ballots.
“Our office has received numerous reports from voters that they have received inaccurate text messages from Ballot Now,” Weber said in a press release. “This has caused voters to believe their returned ballots have not been received or processed by county elections officials.”
Weber said Ballot Now is not affiliated with the Secretary of State’s Office. She urged voters to rely on official election information available on the Secretary of State’s website or through their county elections office.
Voters can check their registration status online and sign up for the state’s “Where’s My Ballot?” service, which provides automatic updates when a ballot is mailed, received, and counted. The service also notifies voters if there are any issues with their ballot.
“We urge Californians to only trust information shared by my office or their county registrar of voters,” Weber said.
