A new virus is attacking Android devices. It is much more sophisticated than its predecessors and tries to trick security systems. Its behavior is very specific and imitates a human. Because of this, you may not be able to detect it right away – and if it gets on your device, the hacker will use it to search for access to your money.
Nový virus bears the name Herodotus and uses several sneaky technologies at the same time – it abuses accessibility services, performs overlay attacks and intercepts SMS messages. This is the so-called banking trojan and therefore aims to extract money from users. Its existence was discovered by researchers from ThreatFabric, who warn that the virus is trying to remote control of the compromised deviceto access finances and accounts through it.
A specific feature of the Herodotus malware is that it imitates keystrokes, even delays between 0,3 and 3 seconds – this is how people work when they think about the text for a longer time and take breaks while writing. Security mechanisms in mobile phones and tablets may not detect the virus because they do not write completely automatically and quickly. Another danger of the new viru is that from intercepted SMS messages can obtain the code for two-step verification. And with the help of SMS, it can also confirm bank account transactions.
Herodotus is therefore very dangerous and difficult to capture.
