The Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) again warns residents about text message scams.
JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — The Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) again warns residents about text message scams.
Many residents received text messages on Thursday, supposedly from the Mississippi Department of Vehicles, claiming they owe money for outstanding traffic tickets and must make the payments by July 18.
The message threatens the recipients with the suspension of driving privileges and more.
This is a scam. The messages look very similar to the toll bridge scam seen earlier this year.
The DPS shared a warning on its social media platforms on Thursday.
DPS Commissioner Sean Tindell said, “Please know that in Mississippi, we don’t have a DMV and we don’t have toll bridges. So these are scams. If you’ve received a text message with a link and it takes you to a page that maybe even looks like a government page, it’s probably a fake if they’re asking you for money. So before you click the link, stop and think.”
