The Michigan State Police are issuing a warning about a scam text that many people are receiving.
It claims to be from the State of Michigan DMV, so that’s your first red flag, since we don’t have a Department of Motor Vehicles; instead, we have a Secretary of State.

The text states that you have an outstanding ticket and threatens various legal actions, including suspension of your driver’s license, if you don’t pay within a few days.
On Monday (June 9), the MSP Jackson post received 10 complaints about the text that people are currently receiving.
The Secretary of State will never request payment via text message. Don’t click the link and just delete the text.
This is the second scam we have learned about, as a Local 4 producer was sent a lengthy text on Tuesday (June 3).
