LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) is now warning of a text scam that’s targeting many across the state.
According to DFA officials, the department has been receiving hundreds of phone calls as the text scam continues to circulate across Arkansas — the scam claims it is from “Arkansas Vehicle Administration” and states that money is due from a traffic ticket.
DFA officials confirmed that the text is not from them, and emphasized that they’d never send a text regarding a traffic ticket.
“DFA will never send you a text regarding a traffic ticket,” said spokesperson Scott Hardin. “Please ignore it and warn friends and family. Thousands of Arkansans are receiving this text today.”
The text scam that many have received reads as follows:
“Arkansas Vehicle Administration (DMV) Final Notice: Enforcement Penalties Begin on June 8.
Our records show that as of today, you still have an outstanding traffic ticket. In accordance with ARKANSAS Administrative Code 15C-16.003, if you do not complete payment by June 7, 2025, we will take the following actions:
1. Report to the DMV violation database
2. Suspend your vehicle registration starting June 8
3. Suspend driving privileges for 30 days
4. Transfer to a toll booth and charge a 35% service fee
5. You may be prosecuted and your credit score will be affected.”
DFA officials urge Arkansans to ignore the text and to send warnings to their friends and family about the scam.
It’s important to avoid clicking any links associated with this text scam and to not provide payment to those sending the text.
