Text messages appearing to come from the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles are alarming people across the state.
Officials said it is a scam.
These scams falsely claim to request payment for fees, outstanding tickets, or tolls. The scam will then threaten to suspend your vehicle registration or driving privileges.
The North Carolina DMV said it does not request payments through text message.
