According to the company, its spam detection system uses AI and machine learning to scan incoming SMS messages in real time, identifying potential threats like phishing links and scams.
Since its initial testing phase, the system is said to have already flagged over 24 million spam messages.
With spam messages increasingly being used as a gateway to scams, Vi’s solution is designed to protect customers from unsolicited and potentially harmful content.
Spam messages will be tagged as “Suspected Spam” to instantly warn users and help them decide what to do. This is similar to Airtel’s AI spam detection, which rolled out in September and protects against both spam texts and calls.
“Our AI-powered spam detection technology reinforces our commitment to customer safety by delivering proactive, real-time protection. Vi is focused on staying ahead of these threats and empowering customers with information to make their mobile experience safer,” said Jagbir Singh, CTO, Vodafone Idea Limited.
Vi has 212.4 million subscribers in India as of September 2024. The company is also planning to launch its 5G services in the country by March 2025, starting with Delhi and Mumbai.
