WhatsApp to soon let users add a custom message when forwarding text, images or links – The Indian Express

WhatsApp, the go-to instant messaging platform used by billions worldwide is bringing improvements that make it easier to customise forwarded messages. Available for select beta testers, the functionality allows users to add a custom message to the content like text, documents, and more.
Unlike the current implementation, which is limited to images, videos and GIFs and requires users to manually send a message after forwarding an image, document, or text message, the upcoming change eliminates the need to send a message after a user has forwarded a message.
According to a new report by WABetaInfo, the functionality works with text, documents, videos, links and photos and is currently limited to those on WhatsApp beta for Android v2.24.25.3. The functionality can come in handy if you want to forward content and add some context or information to the message. It also eliminates the need to remove an existing caption or separately.
As you can see in the image above, a handful of beta testers can now choose to add a message when forwarding an existing image. It should be noted that the feature is not limited to forwarded messages or files, but can also be used to send a new message with content that wasn’t forwarded.
The ability to add custom messages to forwarded messages is rolling out to beta testers and is expected to be available to everyone in the coming weeks. Recently, WhatsApp introduced a new Voice Note Transcript feature that allows users to transcribe voice messages into text.
Australia is proposing a law to regulate Big Tech and protect consumers from anti-competitive practices. The law would give the competition regulator power to investigate and fine companies, with a focus on app marketplaces and ad tech services. Google, Apple, and Meta have not responded to the proposal, which is similar to the EU’s Digital Markets Act and could increase competition.
