As per the directive from the Nigerian Electric Regulatory Commission (NERC), Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) nationwide are expected to furnish users with two 20-digit Key Change Tokens (KCTs) for meter updates starting from November 1, 2023. This follows the announcement that the software on prepaid meters in the country will expire by November 24, 2024. Ikeja Electric, the DisCo serving Lagos residents, has introduced a dedicated website for this process following the linkage of your NIN with your meter.
For those yet to link their NIN with their meter, find out how here.
Here’s how to get your KCTs based on your method of energy purchase.
Option 1: If your preferred method is online banking, mobile banking, or third-party websites like BuyPower, iRecharge, and Quickteller:
Option 2: For those who directly purchase energy tokens from the Ikeja Electric payment website, on your next purchase after linking your NIN with the meter number, you will not only receive the token to recharge with, you will also get two sets of tokens (KCT-1 and KCT-2) for software update.
Option 3: Dial *7024# on your mobile phone and follow the prompt. The USSD code subscribes you to Ikeja Electric Interactive and you’ll be charged ₦20 for this service. Select 2 for Token Retrieval. Then input your meter number. in the space provided. The KCTs will be sent via SMS.
